EMERGENCY CHECKLIST

1. BE CAREFUL. Birds have sharp beaks and claws. mammals may give painful bites, kicks, and scratches. Animals and birds may carry disease and insects. AVOID HANDLING IF POSSIBLE. If you must handle an animal, wear gloves. We can send a trained volunteer to pick up the animal or bird or instruct you how to bring it to The Association to Rescue Kritters.
2. Injured animals with visible wounds, broken wings or limbs need immediate attention. Call us for help.
3. Young baby birds that can't be returned to their nest need immediate attention. They have a high metabolism rate and will quickly use up their energy supply. Call or bring them to The Association to Rescue Kritters.
4. There is less need for immediate action with a healthy mammal baby. Try to replace the animal in its home. If a parent has not returned after a night has passed, call or bring the baby to us.
5. Please, do not feed animals before bringing them to us unless we have instructed you to. Doing so can greatly complicate our job and possibly kill the patient.
6. Place the animal in a closed box lined with kleenex or paper towel. Be sure there is enough air. If the animal must wait before you bring it to us, place the box on a heating pad on low setting in a quiet place.
