Please Note:

One thing you can do to help wildlife babies is to restrain your pets when you know young unprotected wildlife is in the neighborhood.
Please ask your neighbors to do the same.

Sometime animals who come in close contact with civilization can become pests. For example: raccoons get into the trash, skunks under the porch, or squirrels in the attic. The A.R.K. does not handle nuisance situations such as these. You can call us, though, for information and advice when you have an animal nuisance problem.

Rehabilitation organizations in Michigan, by law, can not handle skunks or bats. These animals often bite and can be very dangerous. They are the major carriers of rabies in the wild. Please do not handle them.

.

Except for baby opossums, wild animal babies are not constantly watched by their parents like human babies, but are left alone for extended periods while the parent forages for food. When people do not understand this, they are tempted to remove the wild animal babies from their natural homes in order to save the young bird or animal. Though well intentioned, this action can actually put the wildlife babies at peril since they require exacting diets and care that is difficult to give.

.

The Association to Rescue Kritters receives hundreds of calls each year from people needing advice about animals they have encountered; and receives many baby birds and mammals, most of whom should have been left alone. In most cases, wild animals babies should be left alone.

This informational website provides you with the answers to the most common questions that we receive.
